Visual Arts
Visual Arts has been a cornerstone of youth engagement since our beginning in 2007. In 2008, while in the 3rd Grade at Dan O Root, Kristen and her friends started drawing pictures together. Since there wasn't a certificated teacher to take on an Art and Design club as an ASB Club, Kristen and her friends started to meet at the Library under the SCYC. Then in the 5th grade, Kristen and her friends formed a project management team to undertake a study of 4-H Clubs, Red Cross Clubs, and Scouts and the benefits of having these clubs in their profile. Kristen, Project Manager, Luna, Operations Manager, and Azlynn and others as Auditor started the 1st SCYC 4-H Art and Designed Club at the Library. This solidified a SCYC 4-H Art and Designed Club with a purpose and a place for Kristen and her friends to meet and draw pictures. Who would have ever thought that the art and design club she started as a 5th grader would end up being her pathway to the Fashion Institute for Design and Merchandising (FIDM) and art in the De Young at 22 years old?
This page is dedicated SCYC/BDSSO youth and families who created the Art and Design Clubs, The Animanics, the Anime Club, Arttober, our Word a Day Art Challenge, SPAV Art and Health Fair, the Crafting Club, Dungeon and Dragons Art, Sewing Club, Crochet Club and SCYC Gallerys at the Library and community Artist.
